Ours is a genuine community theatre

About us

The People's Theatre is the leading non-professional theatre company in the North of England and one of the largest and oldest established in the country.

We stage up to fourteen productions a year in our own theatre’s 500-seat main auditorium and our new Studio Theatre.

As a genuine community theatre, we are able to give people from all walks of life the experience of participating in all aspects of theatre.

Every show we do is produced entirely by our members - on stage, backstage and front of house. We take great pride in working to professional standards and many members have gone on work in the professional theatre.

If you would like to join us we are always delighted to welcome new members and ‘New Members Nights’ are held monthly. Please go to 'Get involved' for more information.
