“It may be a pity for women that they are born women, but in running the intellectual race, it’s unlikely they will succeed and perilous to even try.”
It is 1896 and at Cambridge University a battle is raging for the right of women to sit for degrees.
While the female students of Girton College study hard and match their male peers grade for grade, they graduate with nothing other than the stigma of being a 'blue stocking' - an unnatural, educated woman.
But now four Girton girls are taking on the system and are determined to overcome the prejudices they face.
This energetic, passionate and eye-opening drama follows their fight to change the future of education.
But will barriers of class divides and love, plus the strength of those who will do anything to stop them, prove insurmountable?
